Why Choose an Indoor Ceremony?
While many couples dream of an outdoor wedding, there’s something undeniably romantic about an indoor ceremony, and at Hayne House, you’re not compromising on beauty.
Whether it’s the unpredictable British weather, seasonal allergies like hayfever, or simply your love of clean lines and natural light, our Orangery offers a stylish, serene setting to say your vows. With views across the gardens and ceremony seating for up to 120 guests, it’s the perfect balance between elegance and a connection to the outdoors, no matter the season or weather.
And because the space is already filled with natural light and clean architectural lines, it offers the ideal canvas for a ceremony that’s not only beautiful, but deeply personal.

Included in Your Hire: A Design Icon
One of the little luxuries that comes as standard at Hayne House? Our elegant Chiavari chairs, also known as Tiffany chairs, are included in your venue hire.
First designed in 1807 by Italian craftsman Giuseppe Gaetano Descalzi (1767–1855) in the coastal town of Chiavari on the Italian Riviera, these chairs became an instant classic. Their graceful silhouette, lightweight frame, and refined style made them the seating of choice in grand European salons and banquets.
Today, they remain a favourite for weddings across the world, elegant, timeless, and surprisingly comfortable. Whether left bare or dressed with florals or fabrics, they elevate your ceremony space with minimal effort.
And the best part? They’re already part of your day here at Hayne House.

When Should You Hold Your Ceremony?
At Hayne House, most indoor ceremonies take place around 2:00 pm during British Summer Time – giving you a relaxed morning for preparations and beautiful natural light for post-ceremony photography.
But once the clocks change and daylight fades earlier, we recommend planning your ceremony for 1:00 pm. This helps ensure there’s still plenty of time to capture golden-hour couple portraits and all those just-married moments before dusk sets in.
Our team will always help you build a timeline that works beautifully with your season, your photography, and your plans for the rest of the day.

Adding Meaningful Touches to Your Ceremony
Styling is only one part of creating a memorable moment – it’s the emotion and intention that bring your ceremony to life.
Some of the most unforgettable ceremonies we’ve hosted have included:
Custom vows written from the heart
Family traditions or symbolic rituals, such as handfasting or candle lighting
Cultural readings or blessings shared by loved ones
A favourite piece of music that reflects your story
A meaningful reading or poem that speaks to your journey
Whether you’re inviting guests to participate or simply weaving your heritage into the vows, these touches will turn your ceremony into something truly unique

Where to Begin with Ceremony Styling?
Before you fall down the Pinterest rabbit hole, start with the practical magic:
How many guests are you seating? (We can accommodate up to 120 indoors)
How wide is your aisle? Do you want a dramatic entrance or a delicate, flower-lined path?
What’s your focal point? Every ceremony benefits from a visual anchor
What will you do with your ceremony decor? Can you reuse florals or structures to create a seamless, sustainable flow into your wedding breakfast?

Your Focal Point: Framing the Moment
A backdrop or statement feature adds impact and structure to your ceremony. It helps to draw the eye, guide your photographer’s framing, and bring your design together.
This could be:
A floral arch or asymmetrical arrangement
A statement ceremony table arrangement
Soft draping, suspended florals, or a foliage hoop
Even the Orangery windows themselves – beautifully styled with subtle chair dressing and aisle décor
If your floral arch or backdrop is freestanding, consider repurposing it behind your top table for a sustainable, show-stopping look that lasts all day.

Styling Ideas for Your Indoor Ceremony
With Chiavari chairs as your elegant base, your styling options are wide open. Here are some of our favourite ideas – many of which are also sustainable and cost-effective when approached thoughtfully:
Chair-End Flowers or Foliage: Delicate bunches tied with ribbon, easily moved to your wedding breakfast tables later.
Soft Draping: Chiffon or silk sashes in blush, ivory, or sage add texture and movement, please speak with Chic Weddings and Events
Petal-Strewn Aisle or Fabric Runner: Use biodegradable petals or hire a beautiful fabric runner.
Lanterns and Faux Candles: Clustered at the aisle base for a warm, romantic glow – hire these to reduce waste.
Hanging Jar Posies or Signage: Small jars or signs tied to aisle chairs – can be reused elsewhere.
Greenery Garlands: Simple, natural, and easy to relocate after the ceremony.
Dried or Seasonal Flowers: Ask your florist about sustainable options, they’re beautiful, long-lasting, and kind to the planet.
Minimal Styling: Let the natural beauty of the Orangery and Chiavari chairs shine through with less-is-more elegance.

Styling Your Ceremony Table
It may be small, but your ceremony table is a powerful visual element – and where you’ll sign your marriage certificate.
Dress it simply with:
A runner or draped fabric
Bud vases or a compact floral arrangement (ideal to move to your top table after!)
Candles or a framed quote
Your certificate folder, ready for that big moment

Reserving Seats for the Processional
Don’t forget to reserve aisle seats for parents, grandparents, or members of your wedding party who walk in after the guests are seated. Small touches make this practical and stylish:
“Reserved” signs in acrylic, card, or fabric
Ribbon or foliage tied subtly around chair backs
Name cards placed discreetly on seats (however, please note this is not practical if you are getting married outside).
You may also wish to reserve a seat in memory of a loved one who can no longer be with you. A small photo, a single flower, or a simple sign can be a quiet, beautiful tribute, a way to honour their presence in spirit on such an important day.

Planning an Outdoor Ceremony Instead?
Many of the styling tips in this guide also apply beautifully to an outdoor ceremony at Hayne House – from aisle layouts and floral focal points to timing your ceremony with the seasons.
Please note that while our outdoor chairs differ from our indoor chairs, the majority principles of guest comfort, aisle styling, reserved seating, and repurposing floral décor remain exactly the same.
Whether you choose to say your vows beneath the cedar tree or in the Orangery, our experienced team will help you create a ceremony that flows beautifully and feels entirely your own.

At Hayne House, it’s all included for your ceremony:
