Look no further – we’ve got you covered!

At Hayne House, a multi-award-winner in sustainability and B Corp Certified Wedding Venue in Kent, we understand it can be difficult to find a wedding venue that shares your green values and beliefs. We also understand the importance of asking the right questions during your show-around and looking for key elements before choosing a wedding venue.

This blog aims to guide you through the vital process of evaluating whether a wedding venue aligns with your core principles. We will explore the essential questions you should ask your wedding venue to gauge their commitment to sustainability and ethical practices. Here are some crucial things to look for on the wedding venue’s website and social media channels before booking a show around, plus additional questions to ask before or during your tour:

How to find a green wedding venue online

1. Does the wedding venue have any environmentally-friendly certification?

Look for venues with certifications from recognised environmental organisations, such as The Sustainable Wedding Alliance (SWA), and check if the wedding venue is B-Corp Certified.  Here are some great pieces of advice from Fleur Record-Smith owner of Hayne House and ambassador for SWA

Look for venues with awards from recognised companies who are championing environmental organisations, such Marie Claire, United Kingdom Weddings and Honeymoons Magazine (UKWH), or the Kent Wedding Awards (KWA)

3. Does the wedding venue create and publish an Impact Report?

An Impact Report should state what the Wedding Venue has done or is doing to ensure it is operating to improve its social and environmental impact. Take a look at our Impact Report at Hayne House as an example.

4. What is the wedding venue’s strategy for recycling, and do they compost?

Check if there is anything on the wedding venue’s or caterer’s website about what they do with their food waste, bar waste, etc.  Here is an interview with our caterers, Scott Anderson Caterers

5. Energy-Efficient Systems

Look for proof from your preferred wedding venue that it conserves energy using energy-efficient lighting, heating, cooling systems and solar panels.

6. Does the wedding venue require extensive décor?

To keep your wedding green, opt for a wedding venue with a minimalist aesthetic that uses natural materials like wood and stone. Such venues often need less decoration, allowing you to achieve a simple yet elegant look effortlessly.  Please see our Instagram posts for interviews from our suppliers.

7. Look at how much community engagement the wedding venue participates in and whether they advocate for sustainability.

Look for initiatives to see if the wedding venue is engaging with the local community, supporting local businesses and suppliers, and playing an active role as an advocate for sustainability.
