Guest Blog: Sarah Blythe Bouquet Preservation

Are you looking to have your bouquet preserved in a different way as well as being sustainably conscious?

Hi, I’m Sarah – together with my mum Sharon we founded Sarah Blythe and are passionate about creating memorable floral artworks with a sustainable focus. In short, we use photography and digitally printed eco-friendly textiles to create a unique heirloom from a photo of your gorgeous bouquet.

Why we like Hayne House

I was thrilled to be chosen as a guest blogger after recently visiting Hayne House for the Winter Showcase in December. If you’re garden obsessed like me, then you will absolutely adore the Orangery for your venue – I was taken aback by how light and airy it felt; the sun filling the room through the roof lanterns and panoramic windows, which look on to the beautiful gardens. Even though it was a winters day outside, I couldn’t help get the feeling of springtime through the sunlit room!

We love that Hayne House is forward thinking in their sustainable ideas, and if you’re looking for a ‘more green’ focused wedding venue in Kent, then the Orangery is the perfect option without having to compromise on style. As well as having an eco-friendly venue, Hayne House also grows their own herbs, collects rainwater and has even started to introduce solar panels across the estate.

What we do

Preserving your flowers is usually an afterthought for most engaged couples when planning a wedding, and after the ceremony, you most likely will want to head right off on your honeymoon! This is why we offer a service where you can easily send us a photo of your bouquet after your special day and leave the rest to us. We have a large digital archive of flowers that we have photographed over 10 years which we use to create your artwork from.

The most common options we make are the 50x50cm bespoke photographic art print and the eco-friendly chiffon scarf, but we also can create an eco-friendly baby blanket or an eco-friendly cushion cover.  We love to hear your ideas if you have something different in mind that you would like your design printed onto – wallpaper, upholstery fabric and hanging textile prints are just a few examples of other custom products we have created in the past.

The Process

Before your wedding – It’s best to make a booking with us as we can quickly get booked up during the summer months in particular. Most of our couples choose to have their bouquet artwork designed from our digital flower archive, as this allows you to keep the bouquet for yourself or is a great option if you have a destination wedding.

After your wedding – After letting us know what product/s you would like us to create, all you need to do is send us an image of your flowers (this can even be a phone photo) and any flower names you can remember for us to make you a bespoke artwork.

Check your digital mock-up – Once we have created a digital mock-up of your design (this takes around 2 weeks), we will email you with the draft design before it is sent to printing. This is to check the colours are accurate with the flowers you had on the day (your florist should be able to give you a list of what they used). We are happy to tweak the design if need be at this stage.

Printing & Sewing – Once you are happy with your design, we send it to be printed. Depending on which product you have chosen it can vary the production time. Art prints generally take one to three weeks to be printed, whereas any textile option takes between two and four weeks for it to arrive from the printers as we need to wash the fabric, iron and sew into either a cushion, scarf or baby blanket. All of our textile products are printed with eco-friendly digital dyes.

The finished product – Once your product has been sewn or received back from the printers, we give it a check over to ensure everything is perfect before sending to you. It is then delicately wrapped in light tissue paper and either posted in a cardboard box or tube. We don’t like to use plastic packaging – most of our wrapping is made from recyclable paper or is biodegradable.

The future – We also keep your design on file, so if ever you decide that you would like to order more items just get in touch with us. We often have couples return looking for a special Christmas gift or anniversary present – or even baby blankets for surprise gifts and cushions to decorate first homes.
